Time to brag…

I LOVE to brag about my clients. You fine folks inspire me EVERY day. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone running after Sync Fitness Boot Camp or a 1:1 client and spent my entire run thinking about how amazing you are.
So today I want to brag about Erika. Head over to Fit Healthy Moms to read her story. I am so proud of her. I hope she inspires you to step out of your comfort zone. I know she did me.
Yes, you can get cardio AND strength training into a 30 minute workout!
My clients always ask me what I do for my own workouts. I’m totally honest when presented with this question. I do as much as I can as fast as I can and I get on with my day. I’m currently running 3 businesses. My workout time is limited, just like yours, I presume. Many days I workout twice, but each workout is about 20 minutes. Someday I cram it all into one 30-60 minute session. It really depends on my current goals.
When I’m training for a half marathon, I have to find time to get in those longer runs. So once a week I’m getting in a 60+ minute workout. Other than that I keep it short and sweet. When I break it up into two workouts in one day, it’s typically one HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) session and one weight session. If you’re working hard you can accomplish a lot in a very short time. The metabolic effect of these types of workouts is really great.
So go ahead and check out the workout in the video above. This is from last week when I only had 30 minutes to work out and I wanted to get in cardio and upper body strength training. Not easy to do in 30 minutes, but you can tell I definitely got the job done here.
So the next time you think 30 minutes isn’t worth trying to get in a good workout, think again and go kick your own butt!!
Being a role model.

I’ll be honest. Sometimes I don’t want to workout. Yesterday was a travel day for me. So it was a 6am workout on a Sunday or no workout at all. Yup, 6am Sunday workout won. I just knew I’d be mad at myself if I didn’t do it. But, wow, 6am on a Sunday is rough. So here’s my proof that I got it done. It only took me 10 minutes (I did a couple minutes of warm up first, though.) Since I knew I was only doing 10 minutes I turned it up to HIGH GEAR the entire workout. Cannot waste a moment in short workouts like this. Something is always better than nothing. You can only burn so many calories in 10 minutes, but the stimulus to the metabolism is awesome if you really fire it up for 10 minutes. That allows you to burn more cals the rest of the day – woohoo! Let me tell you, I felt AMAZING when I was done. It was so worth getting up a little early for some sweat. Like I always tell my clients, “You’ll never regret your workout once it’s over.” Plus, I felt like a badass getting in a workout when I knew everyone else was sleeping. I mean who else gets up at 6am on a Sunday to sweat?!
Oh, the best part, I had my boot campers do this workout as part of their workout today. They rocked it, of course.
Sara’s 2011 Resolutions

As always, I have a number of resolutions. They are not necessarily tied to the New Year, as much as they are on my ongoing list of “Things To Do.” The New Year does give me a good excuse to put them on paper, make them public (which HUGELY increases accountability) and get the wheels in motion. So, if I share mine, you gotta share yours. Deal?
1. Run 2 half marathons. Most likely Capital City in May and Super Jock & Jill in September.
2. Do another round of P90X. This keeps my strength training focused and balances out the running. Also, it makes me do a million pullups, which I HATE. But they’re good for me. Read the rest of this entry…

I’m very bummed to cancel class tonight and tomorrow morning. Such is the nature of snow in Seattle. . . But NO EXCUSES – the workouts must go on. You are 2 days away from Thanksgiving. Did you know that many people consume 2 entire days worth of food in ONE MEAL on Turkey Day? Disturbing, huh?! Don’t be a victim of this national pigout day.
