<p>Because the last two Rapid Fat Loss Programs sold out so fast and a bunch of you have been sitting on the waiting list (thank you for your patience!!), I wanted to get this Winter program up and running asap.  So here ya go . . . . Details for my Winter 4 Week Rapid Fat Loss Program:</p>

This program will begin with a Kick Off Meeting on Wednesday, January 18th.  We will have Initial Assessments Sunday, January 22nd.  You will officially begin the program Monday, January 23rd.  We will end with Final Assessments on Sunday, February 19th. </b></p>
<p><b>WHAT TO EXPECT during your 4 Week Rapid Fat Loss Program:</b></p>
<p>• 6-20 lbs of weight loss<br />
• 2-4 inches off your waist<br />
• Firmer arms, legs and buns<br />

<p>As always, I have some expectations of you if you commit to this program. Your success very much depends on your dedication and discipline.<br />

WHAT I EXPECT OF YOU during your 4 Week Rapid Fat Loss Program:</b></p>
<p>1. You will commit to exercising 5 days a week.  This includes 3 group training sessions (as seen in above video) with Sync Fitness and 2 cardio sessions on your own.  Alternatively, you may attend as many as 5 sessions a week with Sync Fitness.</p>
<p>Group Training Sessions with Sync Fitness will take place:<br />
Monday/Wednesday/Friday 6-6:45AM<br />
Tuesday/Thursday 5:45-6:30PM<br />
Saturdays at 8-8:45AM</p>
<p>All sessions will take place at <b>The Fitness Lab(3410 Stone Way North, Seattle 98103)</b> in Wallingford.</p>
<p>2. You will commit to eating a healthy and clean diet.  (I’ll give you a full nutrition plan and recipes.)</p>
<p>3. You will allow me to take and use your before/after data and photos to brag about you and motivate others. Initial Assessments will take place on Sunday, January 22nd . Final Assessments will take place on Sunday, February 19th.</p>

<p>• <b>ASSESSMENTS:</b> This is the fun stuff. I will take and compile your before and after data and photos. I will measure and track your weight, and waist circumference measurements. •<b> STRENGTH TRAINING and HIIT SESSIONS:</b> I will give you an exercise program that maximizes your workout time to make you a lean, mean calorie burning machine. You’ll meet with us for awesome group workouts 3 days a week. No more guessing what exercises to do! I will also make sure that you’re performing exercises in a safe way to minimize the risk of injury and blast calories like never before. VALUE = $247<br />
• <b>CARDIO WORKOUTS:</b> I will show you ways to make cardio fly by and burn more calories that you ever thought possible. I’ll even teach you some special tricks to burn more calories in your sleep! VALUE = $127<br />
• <b>NUTRITION:</b>You know what you should eat, but you just haven’t taken the time and effort to clean up your diet, right? I’ll give you a specific meal plan to follow with a ton of recipes. Nothing crazy or super restrictive – just good, healthy, clean eating. VALUE = $287<br />

If you are a current Boot Camper (on the 3 day a week plan), your cost is $147.  You would spend twice as much signing up for 4 weeks of personal training, so this is a really great deal. 3. Can you eat clean and closely follow my meal plan in spite of upcoming events?<br />
4. Can you cut alcohol out completely for the first two weeks of the program and limit yourself to 2 drinks a week for the last 2 weeks of the program?<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My client Mike recently challenged me to a pull up competition.  If you know me very well, you know I&#8217;m a bit competitive.  Interestingly, Mike thought maybe I would let him win.  Ummmm, not a chance.  </p>
<p>Before you press play, I should give you some background.  Mike is in his 60&#8242;s, but played high school and college football.  this has kept him exceptionally young at heart, I believe.  On more than one occassion he has brought in Sports Illustrated articles about the recent NFL workouts and wanted me to model his workouts after theirs.  Additionally, we regularly argue about how much weight he is allowed to bench press (after he looks at what the most up &#038; coming NFL drafts are pressing and then sets the same goal for himself.)  </p>
<p>Mike&#8217;s current sweaty passion is climbing mountains &#8211; big ones, like Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams and hopefully Mt. Kilimanjaro next year.  So we do a lot of lower body conditioning, core conditioning and cardio conditioning.  When Mike completes all those tasks, I reward him with Bench Press and Pull Ups.  </p>
<p>Mike is a force to be reckoned with.  He is still as tough as his 19 year old football persona of a few years past and actually weighs the same&#8230;  he recently came in to report, &#8220;I&#8217;m back down to my college playing weight.&#8221;  Raise your hand if you weigh the same as your most athletic, young adult self???  Yup, I&#8217;m pretty sure I don&#8217;t see many hands out there&#8230;.</p>
<p>When Mike mentioned a pull up competition a few weeks ago, I was ready!!!  I love to have something to work toward.  So last week when Mike&#8217;s daughter, Alessandra, came to town (so they could climb Mt. Adams a few days after our big pull up contest), we had our game day.  Thank you for taping Ale!!</p>
<p>I definitely had an advantage here, as Mike went first both rounds, so I knew the number I had to beat.  Mike has already called for a re-match.  SURE THING!!!!  </p>

This program will begin with a Kick Off Meeting on Thursday, July 7th and end with Final Assessments on Sunday, August 7th.  </b></p>

<p>Are you ready for my new 4 WEEK RAPID FAT LOSS PROGRAM?!</p>
<p>I know many of you were waiting excitedly for a Spring 6 Week Total Body Transformation program, it has proven to be the most effective and comprehensive weight loss program in Seattle.  I was all ready to offer that, but I kept getting these requests:</p>

They are not necessarily tied to the New Year, as much as they are on my ongoing list of &#8220;Things To Do.&#8221;  The New Year does give me a good excuse to put them on paper, make them public (which HUGELY increases accountability) and get the wheels in motion.  So, if I share mine, you gotta share yours.  Deal?  </p>
<p>1.  Run 2 half marathons.  Most likely Capital City in May and Super Jock &#038; Jill in September.</p>
<p>2.  Do another round of P90X.  This keeps my strength training focused and balances out the running.  Also, it makes me do a million pullups, which I HATE.  But they&#8217;re good for me. <span id="more-1607"></span></p>
<p>3.  Return to yoga.  I don&#8217;t even want to write this one down.  It will be the hardest for me.  I d-r-e-a-d yoga.  But I believe it is essential for injury prevention and I am prone to very tight muscles and injuries.  So it really should be at the forefront of my fitness program.  </p>
<p>4.  Help 40-60 people lose 400-600 pounds in my Total Body Transformation program.</p>
<p>5.  Involve 1000 moms in Fit Healthy Moms.  I&#8217;m doing a ton of behind the scenes work on this right now.  More info coming soon.  </p>
<p>6.  Put away my toys and clothes so my husband doesn&#8217;t have to clean up after me.  </p>
<p>7.  Eat more veggies, drink less wine.  I need to be more adventurous with my veggies.  I stick with the same ones over and over.  I know I&#8217;m missing some great colors/vitamins/minerals.  And, yes, I should drink less wine.  That&#8217;s another one I hate to put on paper.  Cause I really don&#8217;t want to do it. . . but wine = empty calories.  Empty calories are just stupid.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Wow.  2011.  Really???</p>
<p>I have been studying a lot of my colleagues in the fitness industry over the past few weeks.  We&#8217;re all big nerds and in our free time we like to make predictions on the &#8220;next big thing&#8221; or the &#8220;next big flop&#8221;.  I wanted to share some of our predictions with you.  I hope you&#8217;ll read carefully and decide what your best means of fitness will be this year.  <span id="more-1583"></span></p>
<p>1.  Boot Camps:<br />
Boot Camps and intense group training have been growing in popularity over the past few years.  But they are really well established now as an amazing way to get in the best shape of your life.  If you live in Seattle, you can&#8217;t drive past a park at 6am without seeing at least one Boot Camp running.  <a href="http://www.syncfitness.com/boot-camp-seattle/">Sync Fitness offers one of the few INDOOR Boot Camps in Seattle</a>.  Thank God I don&#8217;t have to train in the rain all year long.  You&#8217;ve heard me say it before, but Boot Camps give you amazing bang for your buck.  For that reason I really think they are around to stay.  <a href="http://www.syncfitness.com/2010/10/why-boot-camp-blows-your-workout-out-of-the-water/">Here&#8217;s a post</a> I did awhile back about the advantages of Boot Camp over many other workouts.  </p>
<p>2.  Personal Training:<br />
Personal Training used to be seen as a luxury item.  I&#8217;m not gonna lie &#8211; it still is in many ways.  It is so unfortunate that this has to be an out-of-pocket expense.  I hope to see the day that insurance companies reimburse for this service.  The reason I think it needs to be covered by medical plans is that most people don&#8217;t know how to exercise.  It sounds silly, but it&#8217;s true.  Many people do themselves a great deal of harm at the gym.  Then a ton more people go to the gym and don&#8217;t get any results.  People truly need the expertise of fitness professionals to help them lose weight and become more healthy.  I&#8217;m not just talking vanity 6 pack abs here, I&#8217;m talking lose weight to prevent cancer, diabetes, heart disease.  These things are a matter of life or death.  If it&#8217;s a matter of life or death, it&#8217;s really not a luxury item&#8230; </p>
<p>My 1:1 training schedule is pretty much full at this time.  But if you are looking for a personal trainer let me know and I can match you up with one of my awesome colleagues.  Alternatively, I can put you on a waiting list to see me.  </p>
<p>3.  HIIT Training:<br />
Long gone are the days of slow and steady cardio.  If you are still killing yourself on the elliptical 60 minutes per session, please contact me.  You do not need to suffer through mindless, boring, dreadful cardio.  HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is the newest wave of cardio and it is a million times more fun than slow, steady cardio and it actually gets you better results.  I use HIIT workouts all the time in Boot Camp.  My Boot Campers love me for it (as they fling sweat and spit all over the room!)  I also do HIIT workouts on my own regularly.  <a href="http://www.syncfitness.com/2010/05/high-intensity-interval-training-hiit-workout-treadmill-style/">Here is a treadmill session I did posted earlier this year</a>.  This post also gives you more info on why HIIT kicks serious butt!</p>
<p>4.  Detoxing:<br />
There are a million ways to detox and some of them are off-the-wall crazy.  That said, there is such a big movement to rid ourselves of toxins.  Between the scary non-food in our food and the looming environmental toxins in the air we breathe each day, detoxing can be a really good thing.  But, please never do this alone.  There is a lot of Hollywood hype about detoxing.  There are some *crazy* detoxing methods out there that can actually do more harm than good.  I work closely with an amazing nutritionist,<a href="http://www.nourishingbalance.com/index.html"> Mary Purdy</a>, who offer seasonal detoxes.  Mary does a fabulous job of guiding your through a safe, gentle and very effective detox.  Contact her if you are interested in this awesome and cleansing experience.  </p>
<p>5.  Transformation Programs:<br />
These little programs, like my <a href="http://www.syncfitness.com/2010/12/sync-fitness-6-week-total-body-transformation/">6 Week Total Body Transformation</a>, are taking off all over the country.  Never before have nutrition/exercise/support groups collided like this.  This is the most powerful way to lose weight and make lifestyle changes.  Until now all these components have been separate.  So people would join the gym OR join Weight Watchers OR join a support group to lose weight.  But now you can get all these services together as a package for a set period of time (4-12 weeks, depending on the program.)  This is huge.  These comprehensive programs are giving people amazing results and changing the way we see diet and exercise.  It&#8217;s all about lifestyle and finally there a package that helps you establish a new and better lifestyle.  I think these programs will be explosive in the coming years.  </p>
<p>6.  Home Workout Programs:<br />
Home DVD programs have made a big impression in the marketplace over the last year or two.  I think they are going to continue to be a staple in the fitness industry.  There has been a lot of growth in this field since the days of Jane Fonda (who is making a huge comeback with my friends, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/ToneItUp">the Tone It Up girls</a>, BTW).  Along these lines are programs like P90X and Insanity.  I did both of these programs in 2010 and I have to say, these are not your mom&#8217;s 1986 workouts.  No leg warmers here.  These are hard core, gut wrenching, buckets-o-sweat producing workouts.  They ROCK!  I have a couple of friends who are Beachbody coaches (Beachbody is the company who produces P90X, Insanity and a bunch of other workout DVD series.)  They can hook you up with these programs if you&#8217;re interested in checking them out.  </p>
<p>7.  Lifting Heavy:<br />
Ok, this one may scare some of you.  But FINALLY there&#8217;s bunches of research coming out showing what we&#8217;ve suspected for some time now.  Women can and should lift HEAVY!  Be gone 5 pound dumbbells!!!  Let me clarify.  If you&#8217;re a beginner, there&#8217;s nothing wrong with starting with light weights while you learn moves, develop neurological pathways and build strength.  But after a couple months, it&#8217;s okay to push the weight.  Challenge yourself!  YOU WILL NOT BULK UP (unless you&#8217;re eating a ton and dosing with testosterone!)  My fittest clients (non-bulky females with awesome definition) routinely use 20, 25, even 30 pound dumbbells in their personal training sessions.  If you really want to become a lean, mean calorie burning machine, add muscle mass.  You will get smaller, see more definition and pump up your metabolism.  Do not limit yourself to those little 5 and 10 pound dumbbells.  Of course, ask for assistance and supervision when working with heavy weight and do NOT use heavy weights unsupervised unless you really know what you&#8217;re doing.  Do not set yourself up for injury!  </p>

<p>I have spent a lot of time designing this program for people who are REALLY serious about REAL results.  If you are serious about losing weight, fat and inches this program is for you.  </p>
<p>Changing your body is an overwhelming project.  I have gone through this myself in a few different ways.  I grew up overweight.  I did Weight Watchers for the first time, and not the last, in the 5th grade, no joke!  Changing your body can be the most empowering experience of your life. <p>Yesterday I got to do what I&#8217;ve been waiting to do for four years.  I crossed a finish line.  It&#8217;s been a long time coming and it felt amazing.  If you don&#8217;t know the back story, read <a href="http://www.syncfitness.com/2010/11/thanks-for-inspiring-me/">this post</a> from a couple weeks ago.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cappysgym.com">Cappy&#8217;s Boxing Gym,</a> where I&#8217;ve spent many hours training in over the last couple years has this great saying, &#8220;Training is your trophy.&#8221;  This is so true.  The hard work is all in the training.  You put hours of sweat and energy into training for one event that last a fraction of the time of the training.  The event itself is exciting and invigorating.  The training can be grueling.  For me, I train alone, 100% of the time.  Every mile I run is by myself.  Everytime I push myself it is the voice in my own head that makes me push harder and faster.  It can be really draining.  To be honest, I&#8217;m not that exciting.  I get quite bored with myself and my own thoughts.  This can make 2 hour runs very l&#8230;o&#8230;n&#8230;g&#8230;   </p>
<p>So when race day comes along and I get to run with oh, say, 14,000 other people, it is REALLY exciting.  That is just how yesterday was.  Super exciting!  From 6:30 am when I arrived on the course, there was this crazy energy that was completely contagious.  You can&#8217;t help but get all riled up to hit the start line.  I was lucky to be able to start the race with my friend, Chris.  This is a very crowded (annoyingly crowded) race.  It&#8217;s hard to set your pace because for the first 3 miles you&#8217;re just jockeying for a good position to set your own pace.  Frustrating.  The first time I did the Seattle Half Marathon in 1998 it was not like this at all.  But 13.1 miles has become a very popular race distance, so this race has become overcrowded.  Hey, I can&#8217;t complain too much.  As a personal trainer, it&#8217;s really exciting to see so many people show up to run 13.1 miles at the end of November when chances are, it will be rainy, freezing and quite miserable in Seattle. But, as a runner, it is a challenging way to start a race.  Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Chris and I had to hop a race blockade AFTER the start gun went off in order to get through the mob to the start line.  C-r-a-z-y!</p>
<p>So, after a few miles I settled into my pace and felt pretty strong.  I was able to stay on top of my nutrition and hydration the entire race.  This is KEY!  Having eaten breakfast hours before the race, I always have to refuel fairly early in the race.  Eating and running is a delicate balance.  But I was able to keep it all dialed in yesterday.  Additionally, I&#8217;ve discovered caffeinated Clif Shot Blocks.  One must be very careful with caffeine on the run.  I know I can&#8217;t tolerate much, but a little makes a big difference for me.  This is important to test in training runs, or you will find yourself in the porta-potty line mid race &#8211; no fun!!</p>
<p>At about mile 7 one of my clients, Ben, jumped into run with me.  This was right before the biggest hill in the race, so I thought he was just going to run the hill with me (as I did with him for his first marathon.)  But, what an amazing client and friend, he ran the rest of the race with me!  So I had a running buddy for the last 6 miles.  It was AWESOME!  Not that I was the best company.  I was really boring, actually.  I was definitely focused and not too chatty.  But Ben, having done a couple marathons, totally got that.  So he just stayed by my side or within a few steps of me the rest of the way.  It was like a little angel there beside me.  If I wanted to talk I could talk.  If I wanted to be quiet I could be quiet.  But I could not stop.  I could not slow down.  I could not back off.  That&#8217;s the beauty of having someone you know beside you.  Of course, Ben would have piggy backed me to the end if I asked him to.  He was there to do whatever I asked of him.  But for me, having him there was a reminder to push myself and show off my training.  And so I pushed.  I did not give up.  I picked up my pace on every downhill to make up any time I could.  </p>
<p>I typically really struggle from mile 10-12.  This is where my head gets the best of me.  But I didn&#8217;t struggle this time.  I think it was having someone right beside me.  It didn&#8217;t allow me to doubt myself.  I just had to charge ahead.  Mile 12 was another story.  I got really stiff and my legs got soooo tired.  I really didn&#8217;t think I&#8217;d have anything left to rush the finish line.  When I watch the video finish above I have to laugh.  When I entered Memorial Stadium I pushed my legs with everything I had left in me.  I felt myself get faster and I even passed a few people as I approached the line.  But when I watch the video I can see that I&#8217;m not moving that fast &#8211; even though in my head I was flying.  Although, that&#8217;s really not important.  </p>
<p>What is important is that I crossed the line.  I finished in exactly the time I predicted.  I felt really strong (until that last mile).  The sense of accomplishment that comes with all of this is huge.  It brings me tremendous peace to prove to myself that I can do this.  My legs are stiff and my hips ache a bit.  My nerves are shot today.  I&#8217;m tired but I can&#8217;t really sleep.  This is all as it should be.  When you prepare your body to push, really push, these are the results.  I love these results.  It means I did something that many people can&#8217;t do.  Wait, let me rephrase.  I did something many people choose not to do.  Really, a lot people *can* run 13.1 miles.  But most people don&#8217;t want to put in the time, the training, the discipline.  That is why it means so much to me.  It is a badge of honor to train for such an event.  Regardless of your finish time.  Regardless of the distance.  To set a big goal, a goal that may be unattainable, and then chip away week after week, hoping that your training will result in a completed event is something to be proud of.  The training truly is the trophy.  </p>
<p>My other trophies yesterday included wine, cheese and chocolate chip cookie dough.  </p>
<p>So many of you have sent words of encouragement over the last couple weeks.  Thank you so much for pushing me, inspiring me and believing in me.  I was the most confident I&#8217;ve ever been when I hit that start line yesterday.  I knew I was going to perform, because all of you had my back.  It was the perfect day.  I could not have done it without my Sync Fitness family.  Thank you my friends!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve been running Boot Camps in Seattle for 5 years now.  My current <a href="http://www.syncfitness.com/fitness-classes/boot-camp-seattle/">Indoor Boot Camp in Wallingford/Fremont</a> is booming.  I guess you could say Sync Fitness is a trend setter.  A colleague sent me a <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/yourlife/fitness/exercise/2010-10-28-fitnesstrends28_ST_N.htm?csp=usat.me">great article from USA Today</a> last week.  It was about fitness trends for 2011.  At the top of the list: BOOT CAMP!  Why did Boot Camp come in at the top?  Because it is simply the best way to burn calories in the shortest amount of time.  This is partly because group exercise makes you work harder to keep up with your classmates.  It&#8217;s partly because Boot Camp exercises and drills tend to be full body exercises that burn a ton of calories and use many muscle groups at once (hello, so much bang for your buck!)  It&#8217;s also because Boot Camp uses high intensity intervals to light a fire under your metabolism and help you burn calories around the clock.  In the USA Today article they compared calories burned in 45 minutes of vigorous weight lifting vs. 45 minutes of walking (at 3.5 mph) vs. 45 minutes of Boot Camp.  Here&#8217;s the results:<span id="more-1433"></span></p>
<p>Weight Lifting:  357 calories burned</p>
<p>Walking:  226 calories burned</p>
<p>Boot Camp:  476 calories burned</p>
<p>*results based on a 175 pound person</p>
<p>I can tell you right now, that the average Boot Camper will continue to burn another 100-300 calories in the 24-48 hours following Boot Camp.  You do not get this kind of afterburn with weight lifting or walking. So, really your choice of exercise is obvious now, right?!  </p>
<p>In my most recent newsletter, I told my clients, &#8220;Do not be average.&#8221;  Why?  The average person gains 5-8 pounds during the holidays.  Is that really what you want for yourself over the next 8 weeks.  I mean, as you are right now, you&#8217;d probably like to lose 5-8 pounds.  Who wouldn&#8217;t??  So are you going to be average and add *another* 5-8 pounds to your body this holiday season?  Or are you going to be above average and start your New Year&#8217;s Resolution right now.  If you start now you could LOSE the weight the average person GAINS over the holidays.  How&#8217;s that for a Happy Holiday gift?!  </p>
